Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities

  • Will have direct exposure to Summit’s Executive Team.
  • Will work closely with all insurance functional areas (Underwriting, Claims, Loss Prevention, Sales).
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Office Excel, and data aggregation (SQL required, R and Python preferred). 
  • Prior Workers Compensation experience preferred but not required.
  • Responsibilities will include pricing, reserving, predictive modeling and reporting. 
  • Compiles, consolidates and analyzes actuarial information for the production of statements, schedules, filings and reports of a more complex nature.
  • May act as a project lead on actuarial studies and pricing strategies.
  • Directs the development of policy values. Develops and maintains profit studies, reserve studies, PC-based programs, and rate files and procedures.
  • Prepares actuarial portion of financial reports in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Statutory Accounting Principles (SAP).
  • May develop predictive models using advanced statistical and machine learning techniques and communicates modeling results to business unit management.
  • Provides actuarial analyses, responses and communications to product areas.
  • Maintains awareness/currency of emerging issues affecting product lines.
  • Provides technical advice to lower level positions and other functional areas.
  • May lead the work of others (mentors, prioritizes, delegates and reviews assignments).
  • May have responsibility for performance and coaching of staff and may have a participatory role in decisions regarding talent selection, development, and performance management for direct reports.
  • The person hired for this position will work out of the Lakeland, FL office which offers a hybrid work environment of 3 days in the office and 2 days work from home.
     

Job Profile

Education: Bachelor's degree or equivalent.

Field of Study: Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics or a related discipline.

Experience: 4 to 6 years of related experience. Has attained or is in the process of obtaining an Associateship and typically is completing additional coursework toward Fellowship in the Casualty Actuarial Society (FCAS) or the Society of Actuaries (FSA).
