Essential Functions:

  • Manage claim office handling commercial property, casualty, and workers compensation claims with heavy casualty background
  • Manages the claims teams in the performance of job functions to ensure adherence to the best practices and guidelines
  • Ensures that all claims are assigned in a timely manner and to the appropriate adjuster based on workload, claim volume, type of claim and adjuster experience
  • Advises staff on questions of coverage, liability, claim value and strategy
  • Examines claim files to determine whether proper claim handling procedures are being followed
  • Ensures that timely, adequate reserves have been established
  • Communicates with other departments regarding risk evaluation, account activity, significant reserve changes, and claim trends
  • Reviews litigated files
  • Oversees compliance with state and federal requirements

 

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent relevant work experience
  • Ten years of claims handling experience in progressively responsible roles, including supervisory functions
  • Insurance designations preferred

 

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Superior knowledge of the claim function
  • Analytical ability and excellent judgment regarding liability and coverage
  • Excellent leadership qualities
  • Proven excellent knowledge of insurance contracts, medical terminology and legal aspects of court procedures
  • Excellent knowledge of computers and claims systems
  • Superior investigative and problem-solving abilities
  • Occasional travel; valid driver’s license with an acceptable motor vehicle report per company standards will be required if traveling
