Job Description

POSITION TITLE: SENIOR ACCOUNTANT

REPORTS TO: DIRECTOR OF FINANCE AND ACCOUNTING

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsibilities include performing Accounting functions and maintaining financial records within the authority assigned and under direct supervision of the Accounting Manager or Director of Finance and Accounting.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

· Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Business preferred with five years of accounting and finance experience. Must have a record of successfully achieving business goals. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted

· Knowledge of general ledger accounting software packages

· Knowledge of account reconciliation, general ledger maintenance and financial report preparations

· MS Office applications; advanced excel skills preferred

· Insurance or course designations preferred (e.g. AIC, CIC, CPCU)

· Excellent negotiation, organization, and time management skills

· Outstanding customer service, communication, interpersonal and presentation skills required to foster good working relationships with staff, customers, and agents

· Proven ability to work across all levels of an organization

· Solid knowledge of technology

WORKING CONDITIONS

· Ability to work flexible hours

· Sitting for extended periods of time

· Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard, mouse, and other related devices

· Physically able to participate in training sessions, presentations, and meetings

· Periodic local travel, i.e. meetings, seminars, etc., is required

· The office work area is climate controlled and tobacco free



Job Requirements:

  • Reconcile and post all Bank Reconciliations to the General Ledger
  • Review and analyze all General Ledger accounts (daily, monthly, annually) for close process
  • Process monthly and annual financial close
  • Prepare monthly budget report
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual Financial Reports (verifying compliance with statutory, regulatory, GAAP and SSAP requirements)
  • Prepare all regulatory financial reports (Annual Statements)
  • Assist in audit of Coastal Area and Beach Area Voluntary Writings and prepare all audit reports
  • Reconcile and prepare annual participation reports
  • Assist with Annual financial audit
  • Review and process 1099's
  • Review and process premium tax payment
  • Assist in ensuring company compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), Statutory Accounting Principles (SAP) and government regulations
  • Work with Business Analysts to improve Accounting applications and functionalities
  • Promptly respond to all consumer, agent and member company inquiries
  • Participate in self-development activities to improve technical knowledge and to develop other required business related skills and abilities
