Job Description

Regional Underwriting Director - Mid Atlantic Region

 

Can be remote/work from home, but must be in greater Mid Atlantic area.  Philadelphia, Southern NJ, Delaware, Maryland, Washington DC, Virginia.

 

Summary

Responsible for review and analysis of underwriting data to build and maintain a profitable book of business within the Contract Surety assigned territory.  Manages agency relationships through continued customer service and marketing activities.  Actively contributes as a technical expert in both underwriting activities and department-specific industry knowledge. This role will report directly to the Senior Vice President of Contract Surety.

Minimum

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Drives profitability, retention, and written premium goals.
  • Manages territory to help achieve goals.
  • Makes independent decisions within underwriting letter of authority and maintains proper file documentation.
  • Assist in developing annual business goals for assigned agents/producers.  Responsible for analyzing results and maintaining accountability of agency partners.
  • Maintains awareness of market trends and identifies emerging threats.
  • Possesses an in-depth knowledge of department products and services.
  • Ability to clearly articulate the department’s value proposition.
  • May provide input into the development of strategic annual divisional planning activities.
  • Participates in training and initiatives. May participate in projects.
  • Travel required.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Recommended Education & Requirements  

·         Bachelor's degree and ten plus years of mid-major market Contract Surety underwriting experience with a carrier.

        Established relationships with Mid Atlantic retail brokers highly desirable.

·         Possesses strong communication and analytical skills to pursue new business.

·         Proficient in software needed to succeed in the department.

·         Excellent organizational and time management skills.

·         Possesses underwriting and industry designations applicable to area of specialization.

The annualized base pay for the advertised position, located in the specified area, ranges from a minimum of $100,400 to a maximum of $228,300. The actual compensation is determined by various factors, including but not limited to the market pay for the jobs at each level, the responsibilities and skills required for each job, and the employee’s contribution (performance) in that role. To be considered within market range, a salary is at or above the minimum of the range. You may also have the opportunity to participate in discretionary equity (stock) based compensation and/or performance-based variable pay programs.
