RCIS (Rural Community Insurance Services), a division of Zurich North America, is currently hiring a Senior Cloud Architect to work out of our Anoka, MN office that will be responsible for leading the creation of a technology framework and providing technical leadership in support of ZNA Crop IT’s initiatives in cloud computing and automation, with a focus on the design of systems and services that run on cloud platforms. The Senior Cloud Architect will report to the Director of Application Development and will provide architectural leadership and define best practices for the Crop IT application development team. Additionally, the Senior Cloud Architect will be responsible for ensuring that critical applications are designed and optimized for high availability and disaster recovery.
The position requires strong leadership and team building skills and must be able to collaborate effectively with a group of high performing individuals. Responsibilities may include:
Cloud Architecture and Design and Development
Demonstrated knowledge of cloud architecture and implementation features (OS, multi-tenancy, virtualization, orchestration, elastic scalability)
Acting as a Subject Matter Expert to the organization for ZNA Crop IT cloud end-to-end architecture, including Microsoft Azure and future providers, networking, provisioning, and management
Developing a library of deployable and documented cloud design patterns, based on the ZNA Crop IT application portfolio, as a basis for deploying services to the cloud
Demonstrating leadership ability to back decisions with research and the “why,” and articulate several options, the pros and cons for each, and a recommendation
Maintaining overall industry knowledge on latest trends, technology, etc.
Developing solutions architecture and evaluate architectural alternatives for private, public and hybrid cloud models, including IaaS, PaaS, and other cloud services
Demonstrated knowledge of DevOps tool chains and processes
Contributing to DevOps development activities and complex development tasks
Defining optimal design patterns and solutions for high availability and disaster recovery for applications
Driving scope definition, requirements analysis, functional and technical design, application build, product configuration, unit testing, and production deployment
Ensuring delivered solutions meet/perform to technical and functional/non-functional requirements
Providing technical expertise and ownership in the diagnosis and resolution of an issue, including the determination and provision of workaround solution or escalation to service owners
Providing support and technical governance, expertise related to cloud architectures, deployment, and operations
Providing thought leadership in industry and to fellow team members across business and technical project dimensions solving complex business requirements
Demonstrating forward thinking around where the organization is going and how technology can support these efforts
Advocating and defining cloud architecture vision from a strategic perspective, including internal and external platforms, tools, and systems
Acting as the coach and mentor to team members and technical staff on their assigned project tasks
Leading the definition and development of cloud reference architecture and management systems
Conducting product work reviews with team members
Bachelors Degree in Information Technology and 6 or more years of experience in the Information Technology area OR
High Shool Diploma or Equivalent in Information Technology and 8 or more years of experience in the in Information Technology area OR
Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice including an Associate Degree in Information Technology and 6 or more years of experience in the Information Technology area
Bachelor’s degree in computer science, systems analysis or a related study
10+ years of experience spanning at least two IT disciplines, including technical architecture, network management, application development, middleware, database management or operations and in designing large and complex IT operations in large enterprises
Experience as a team lead preferred
Experience with Microsoft Azure enterprise implementations
Exposure to multiple, diverse technologies and processing environments
Knowledge of all components of a technical architecture
Knowledge of business process re-engineering principles and processes
Understanding of network architecture and application development methodologies highly preferred
Understanding of SOA, object-oriented analysis and design, and/or client/server systems highly preferred
