In the business analyst position, you would assist and support project management in all phases of the software development life cycle for business application and/or data management systems. You would be compiling detailed project and/or data modeling/analysis/mapping documentation for all of Montana State Fund’s applications, including gather requirements related to Guidewire PolicyCenter and BillingCenter. You would also work closely with customers and coordinate communication amongst the project team to ensure products meet specified requirements. In addition, you would apply system solutions to business problems by developing and producing business queries, including querying relational databases through SQL.

Another key component of this position is coordinating offshore/onsite vendor resources to ensure execution for all aspects of the software development life cycle, including successful production deployments of defect-free software.

About the Role

Act as the liaison between the business and IT on medium to large projects; assist and support project management throughout all phases of development; assist with application support; write detailed requirements for system changes and enhancements.  

This position may be hired to either work at our local headquarters in Helena, Montana or remotely from within the United States, provided the candidate is sufficiently digitally capable from his/her location.

What You Will Do

  • Assists and supports project management work by adhering to the Project Methodology standards in all phases of the software development life cycle for business application and/or data management systems; compiles detailed project and/or data modeling/analysis/mapping documentation for all MSF applications and/or data management systems based on customer needs in accordance with business processes. (50%)
  • Works closely with customers and coordinates communication between subsections of the project team on medium to large projects to communicate all aspects of requested IT work to ensure products meet specified requirements and perform within acceptable user expectations; works closely with quality assurance analysts during testing to ensure products maintain overall system integrity; works closely with business and developers to ensure process efficiency, data quality, and/or metadata integrity. (40%)
  • Applies system solutions to business problems by developing and producing business queries, and/or simple standard reports, and/or business requirements for application/system changes and/or complex data analysis solutions, using MSF standard report writing tools and methodologies. (10%)

  • Compiles detailed project or analysis documentation for systems based on customer needs.
  • Documents and explains business processes to technical staff assuring requirements are met.
  • Works closely with customers and coordinates communications with project team members.
  • Work closely with quality assurance analysts during testing to ensure overall system integrity.
  • Applies system solutions to business problems by developing queries, reports, or requirements for application changes and enhancements.
  • Assist with application training of customers.
  • Resolve 3rd level Help Desk calls.

Required Experience

What You Will Need (Minimum Qualifications)

  • Requires a bachelor’s degree plus four (4) years’ relevant IT work experience that includes two (2) years in the insurance industry and one (1) Level 1 insurance certification (Claims, Underwriting or Insurance Professional), or equivalent combination of education and experience.
    • Required relevant IT work experience: Guidewire PolicyCenter and BillingCenter or equivalent insurance COTS based products.
  • Equivalent current technologies will also be considered.Preferred
  •  
  • SQL Query database experience.
  • Directly related workers compensation business related experience.
  • Relevant Certifications.
