Associate Application Engineer (HYBRID TO WORCESTER)

Our Digital Transformation and Information Technology organization is seeking an Associate Application Engineer to join our growing team in our Worcester Headquarters.

This role is ideal for early‑career developers who enjoy hands‑on coding, problem solving, and continuous learning. Candidates located near Worcester, MA are strongly preferred for this hybrid role.

POSITIN SUMMARY:

You will work closely with senior engineers and technical leads to build modern applications using Java and full‑stack development practices. This role is focused on hands‑on keyboard development, following established patterns, contributing to high‑quality code, and learning through mentorship.

This is a full‑time, salaried position.

WHAT YOU WILL DO: 

  • Hands‑on development — Implement application features using React and Java technology stacks, under the guidance of technical leads
  • Full‑stack contribution — Contribute to both backend and frontend components as part of project delivery
  • SDLC participation — Follow established SDLC practices including requirements review, development, testing, and deployment
  • Code quality — Write clean, maintainable code and participate in code reviews
  • Unit testing — Develop and execute unit tests to ensure functionality and stability
  • Troubleshooting — Investigate and resolve defects identified during QA and business validation
  • Agile teamwork — Collaborate with team members in an Agile, team‑oriented environment
  • Production support — Assist with production releases and ensure ongoing application stability
  • Continuous learning — Build technical knowledge through mentorship, training, and exposure to modern development tools
  • Build foundational understanding of P&C insurance concepts and internal systems
  • Other duties as assigned

WHAT YOU NEED TO APPLY:

  • 0–2 years of experience in software development or related technical roles
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related field preferred
  • Demonstrated curiosity, initiative, and desire to grow technical skills
  • Interest in modern development approaches and full‑stack engineering
  • Exposure to or interest in GenAI‑assisted development tools
  • Ability to analyze problems and develop effective solutions with guidance
  • Strong communication, organization, and interpersonal skills
  • Attention to detail and commitment to quality
  • Ability to work effectively in an Agile, collaborative environment

 

TECHNCIAL SKILLS:

  • Hands‑on experience with Java or similar object‑oriented languages
  • Hands-on experience with mobile (native or cross platform) languages and platforms
  • Exposure to front‑end technologies such as React, JavaScript and CSS
  • Familiarity with version control, especially Git
  • Understanding of REST APIs and basic integration concepts
  • General understanding of cloud fundamentals, especially Azure
  • Ability to troubleshoot and work through technical problems
  • Experience working in Agile environments

The target hiring range for this role may vary based on geographic location and other factors, including merit or performance, demonstrated proficiency, skills for the role, education, travel requirements, and experience. Additional compensation may include an annual bonus (which could take the form of a general bonus, sales incentive, or short-term incentive), long-term incentive or spot recognition awards. The posted range reflects our ability to hire at different position titles and levels depending on background and experience.
