Software Engineering Intern

At Central, an internship is more than completing busy work. Interns contribute to technology products that support our customers and business while building the engineering skills, judgment, and confidence needed to begin their careers. You will learn through meaningful work, regular feedback, and support from experienced teammates.

Central’s internship program is customized to each placement. Interns gain first-hand experience solving defined business and customer problems as part of a product team. The program provides exposure across the organization, opportunities to learn from experienced teammates, and the context to understand how technology improves the way the business operates.

Each internship will be different; however, at its core, the program consists of the following opportunities:

• Immersive experiences in challenging and meaningful work with built-in continuous learning opportunities
• Direct impact on work that matters and opportunities to affect successful outcomes and drive corporate objectives
• Build foundational software engineering skills, product knowledge, and professional judgment
• Build a lasting professional network through events and activities

Software Engineering Intern

• Uses and learns applicable programming language(s) and writes code
• Learn and use the team’s standard development, source control, testing, collaboration, and delivery tools
• Implements functionality on top of existing patterns and approaches
• Work as part of a software engineering product team, participate in pairing and code reviews, and apply coaching and feedback from experienced engineers
• Build an understanding of the product, who uses it, the customer or business problem it solves, and the team’s role in Central’s value chain
• Use AI-assisted development tools under team guidance to explore code, tests, documentation, and design options; verify the output and never treat generated content as automatically correct
• Learn how delivered software behaves after release and how reliability, security, accessibility, maintainability, and data protection influence engineering decisions
• Completes a summer long project and presents to executive leaders
