Nautilus Insurance is seeking a Senior Underwriting Auditor to join their team.  This role can be located on a hybrid schedule in our Scottsdale, AZ office or remotely for a highly qualified candidate.

The Underwriting Excellence Team is responsible for driving underwriting quality, consistency, and operational excellence across the organization. 

The role serves as a key resource for identifying emerging trends, monitoring agency and underwriting effectiveness, supporting regulatory and compliance expectations, and providing actionable insights that enhance decision making.

Key Functions/Duties of Position

• Conduct comprehensive reviews of new business, renewals, and quotes to evaluate risk quality and file handling from underwriting, pricing, and policy construction perspectives, ensuring adherence to established underwriting procedures and authorities.
• Mitigate potential future losses by escalating substandard risks requiring immediate action and identifying trends and opportunities for improvement among agents and underwriters.
• Summarize results, analyze trends, and communicate findings.
• Provide monthly reviews and quarterly territory reports, offering insights into agency results, trends, book performance, and supporting business development opportunities within partner management.
• Facilitate KPMG, SOX, and internal corporate compliance audits.
• Offer recommendations to influence underwriting appetite, guidelines, and execution across all lines of business.
• Identify training needs for underwriting staff and agents based on results, work with Underwriting Training Coordinators to develop appropriate training programs and objectives.
• Represent the department in departmental meetings as requested.
• Maintain professional relationships with internal departments, external agents, vendors, and customers.
• Perform other duties and projects as assigned.
• Analyze underwriting data, quality metrics, loss trends, and operational performance indicators to identify emerging risks, underwriting opportunities, and areas requiring corrective action.
• Partner with underwriting leadership to support strategic initiatives that improve underwriting consistency, portfolio quality, profitability, and customer outcomes.
• Assist in the development, maintenance, and enhancement of underwriting standards, audit methodologies, scorecards, procedures, and governance frameworks.
• Evaluate the effectiveness of underwriting controls, workflows, and business processes, recommending enhancements to improve efficiency, accuracy, and risk selection.
• Conduct targeted reviews and special studies to address emerging underwriting concerns, profitability challenges, catastrophe exposures, or strategic business objectives.
• Serve as a subject matter expert and resource for underwriting staff regarding underwriting guidelines, authority interpretation, policy construction, and best practices.
• Participate in calibration exercises to promote consistency in underwriting reviews, scoring methodologies, and quality standards across the organization.

• Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university required, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Minimum 5 (5) years of commercial insurance experience.
• Candidates must possess strong technical underwriting knowledge, analytical skills, and the ability to evaluate complex risks across multiple lines of business.
• Excess & Surplus (E&S) underwriting experience is strongly preferred
