Global Legal & Compliance Data Officer

As a new member of the Global Legal & Compliance (GL&C) Strategy, Intelligence, and Integration team, the GL&C Data Officer owns the strategic data and AI roadmap for GL&C and ensures execution aligns to Liberty Mutual's global data strategy and GL&C's 2030 vision. GL&C sits at the intersection of risk, regulation, capital, and execution; as generative and agentic AI reshape the economics of legal service delivery, this role is central to ensuring GL&C's data and technology foundation keeps pace. The GL&C Data Officer leads the newly established Data Office within Strategy, Intelligence & Integration (SI&I), bringing together data strategy, governance, quality, and enablement with product management, data science, knowledge management & information services, capabilities historically split across the function.

This is the highest-level data leadership role within GL&C, reflecting the degree of technical, regulatory, and strategic complexity inherent to legal and compliance data. The role sits within the Strategy, Intelligence & Integration (SI&I) department and reports to the GL&C Strategy, Intelligence & Integration Leader, with close partnership across the GL&C Leadership Team, the Performance & Execution Leader, and Liberty's enterprise Data Officer community.

Job Responsibilities:

• Strategy and Planning: In partnership with GL&C leadership and Technology, establishes and owns GL&C's data and AI strategy, serving as the north star for data across the function and ensuring alignment with Liberty's enterprise data strategy and other Data Officers. Defines target data architecture and business needs to support GL&C's 2030 ambition, including work evolution, AI-enabled legal service delivery, and regulatory data requirements. Leads data capability maturity assessments and translates them into strategic roadmaps for data ingestion, quality, and governance across all GL&C practice groups.

• Governance and Execution: Owns execution and oversight of the four Data Office pillars: data strategy, data governance (clarity of ownership and stewardship of access), data quality (controls and lineage), and data enablement (supporting users within and outside GL&C). Directs policies, processes, and controls for data and business technology consistent with global standards, balancing data access with regulatory, legal, and confidentiality requirements specific to a highly regulated legal and compliance environment.

• Data Office Leadership: Leads the integrated Data Office, including product management, data science, and knowledge management & information services. Ensures reporting, analytics, and knowledge platforms are governed, high quality, and fit for purpose across GL&C's advisory, litigation, and compliance work.

• Partnership with Performance & Execution: Builds and maintains the technical backbone (infrastructure, architecture, governance) that enables the work evolution decision engine. Owns data infrastructure and analytical capability; partners with Performance & Execution, who determines whether specific technology or delivery decisions are operationally viable and sequenced appropriately. Ensures data readiness is not a blocker to GL&C's productivity and affordability commitments.

• Prioritization and Investment Governance: Partners with the SI&I Leader to inform GL&C-wide prioritization of technology and data investments, providing the data fact base that supports enterprise-level trade-off decisions on which initiatives get funded and when.

• Talent and Culture: Champions data as a strategic asset across GL&C, driving a culture where legal and compliance professionals trust and use data insights. Builds organizational capability to read, understand, and communicate with data across a predominantly legal workforce, acting as a change leader who educates stakeholders unfamiliar with data-driven ways of working.

• Capability Development: Aligns and influences across GL&C practice groups (Litigation, Advisory, Compliance, BU Legal Teams) balancing local practice group needs against GL&C-wide and enterprise data standards. Partners with Technology to scale a data model that integrates disparate legal systems, enabling a coherent, GL&C-wide view of data.

• External and Emerging Trends: Maintains awareness of external trends in legal technology, AI, and data governance, bringing relevant opportunities and regulatory risks to GL&C leadership, particularly given GL&C's role protecting Liberty Mutual and its policyholders.

• Minimum of ten years' experience in strategic data management roles with a demonstrated record of driving business outcomes through data strategy and operationalization.
• Strong experience building, articulating, and delivering business cases for data-centric strategy, ideally within a legal, compliance, or other highly regulated function.
• Expertise in information architecture, data governance, and emerging AI/data technologies.
• Demonstrated ability to integrate data strategy and programs across a complex, matrixed enterprise, and to partner effectively with both technical and legal/non-technical stakeholders.
• Strong leadership skills with experience building high-performing, inclusive teams, and a track record of change leadership in environments where data maturity is still developing.
• Bachelor's Degree required, MBA preferred. Experience within financial services, insurance, or legal operations strongly preferred given GL&C's regulatory and risk context.

Pay Philosophy: The typical starting salary range for this role is determined by a number of factors including skills, experience, education, certifications and location. The full salary range for this role reflects the competitive labor market value for all employees in these positions across the national market and provides an opportunity to progress as employees grow and develop within the role. Some roles at Liberty Mutual have a corresponding compensation plan which may include commission and/or bonus earnings at rates that vary based on multiple factors set forth in the compensation plan for the role.
