Sompo has a unique opportunity for a Ceded Reinsurance Cash Accounting Trainee on our Ceded Reinsurance team.
Our Trainee Program is an 18-to-24-month program beginning in late Spring/early Summer 2027 designed to equip you with the essential business and technical skills needed to build a successful career in the (re)insurance industry.
As a Ceded Re Accounting Trainee, you will work alongside the most experienced Ceded Re accountants in the industry to gain in-depth knowledge of our business through on-the-job learning and workplace mentoring.
Our Ceded Reinsurance team is a globalized customer focused, dedicated and professional organization. The team is responsible for the purchasing and management of Ceded Reinsurance placements. The Ceded Accounting staff will provide accurate and timely production of financial statements, production reports, client receivables/payables and be actively involved in cash processing, collection and disbursement as well as any ad-hoc project requests. The position will report to a Ceded Reinsurance Accounting Manager.

On-The-Job Learning
Ceded Reinsurance accounting requires a high degree of experience and expertise – something you can’t learn in the classroom. Sompo Trainees are immersed in the day-to-day activities of their team. Whether it is learning technical accounting, developing an understanding of reinsurance programs and contractual terms included in reinsurance contracts or by handling account analysis or even by active learning through various team meetings. The goal would be for you to develop and demonstrate the skills to progress in your ‘technical accounting’ career.

Professional designation courses give new Trainee professionals technical knowledge of insurance operations and industry practices. What will I need to be a Trainee?
Qualifications, Skills and Experience
Sompo employees are some of the best and brightest in the industry. When recruiting the next generation of Sompo employees, we consider graduating Seniors, and recent college graduates with previous internship experience working in the (re)insurance as well as financial services industries.
Additional requirements include:
• Bachelor’s degree with Graduation date between May 2025 and May 2026
• Genuine interest in developing a career in the (re)insurance industry with interest in accounting, economics, finance and mathematics. Prefer some industry experience from previous internships.
• Ability to articulate ideas clearly through written and verbal communication
• Solution-oriented mindset and data analytical, quantitative skills
• Ability to work independently as well as collaborate with others
• Adaptability to new challenges and ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment
• Demonstrates integrity, accountability and reliability in fulfilling roles and responsibilities
• Detail-oriented, organized, and tech-savvy (Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
• Local to the desired office location
• Eligible candidates must be at least 18 years old and authorized to work in the United States without restriction
Salary Range: $70,000 – $77,500 Actual compensation for this role will depend on several factors including the cost of living associated with your work location, your qualifications, skills, competencies, and relevant experience.

Our compensation program is built on a foundation that promotes a pay-for-performance culture, resulting in higher incentive awards, on average, when the Company does well and lower incentive awards when the Company underperforms.
