The Business Insurance Property Claims Adjuster is responsible for the investigation, evaluation, negotiation, and resolution of first‑party commercial property claims. This includes assessing coverage, determining damages, managing reserves, and delivering exceptional customer service while adhering to regulatory and company standards.
Key Responsibilities
Conduct investigations to determine coverage, assess damages, and identify subrogation/salvage opportunities.
Interpret and apply policy language to commercial property losses.
Evaluate exposures and set accurate, timely reserves.
Manage claims from first notice through resolution with proper documentation and financial accuracy.
Negotiate fair settlements with policyholders and involved parties.
Handle structural damage estimates, personal property losses, and business income/time‑element claims.
Deliver clear, empathetic, high‑quality customer service.
Collaborate with underwriting, legal, sales, and external vendors.
Maintain regulatory compliance and leverage technology for efficiency.
Contribute to continuous improvement and mentor peers when appropriate.
1+ year of 1st party property claim handling experience required.
1+ year of 1st party commercial property claim handling experience preferred.
Commercial property structural damage estimating experience a plus.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
Ability to obtain and maintain required state adjuster licenses.
Experience estimating structural losses and handling business income/time‑element claims.
Commercial property claims experience with an insurance carrier.
Additional Information:
This role can have a Hybrid or Remote work arrangement. Candidates who live near one of our office locations (Hartford, CT, San Antonio, TX, Lake Mary, FL, Scottsdale, AZ, and Naperville, IL) will have the expectation of working in an office 3 days a week (Tuesday through Thursday). Candidates who do not live near an office will have a remote work arrangement, with the expectation of coming into an office as business needs arise.
As a condition of employment - You will be required to successfully complete one week of in-person training located in Lake Mary, FL and one week learning lab. You should have no schedule conflicts during training. You must obtain and maintain a State Adjuster's License to process Property & Casualty Insurance Claims in the states supported by your office. You will be required to successfully pass the Licensing exam(s) within 30 business days from the completion of the licensing training, where applicable.

Compensation
The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford’s total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition. The annualized base pay range for this role is:
