As the leading workers’ compensation insurer in Minnesota, SFM relies on a stable, high-performing internal culture to meet our commitments to the businesses and workers we serve. We are looking for a Director of People and Culture to provide the strategic oversight and operational leadership necessary to maintain this foundation.

Reporting to the Chief HR Officer, you will be responsible for the core pillars of our people strategy—specifically total rewards, talent management, and employee relations. • Talent Management: You will direct strategies to attract, develop, and retain high-performing employees across all operating states through effective workforce planning and onboarding experiences. By analyzing engagement data, you will drive culture initiatives and serve as a trusted advisor to senior management on performance and organizational improvements.
  • Employee Relations: You will serve as the senior resource and escalation point for complex employee relations matters, including investigations and conflict resolution. You will also develop HR policies that foster an inclusive workplace while monitoring employment law developments to ensure our practices remain current.
  • Leadership: You will act as a strategic partner to the CHRO, representing HR in cross-functional projects and building a high-performing department team. Your focus will be on mentoring staff, communicating the corporate vision, and providing the tools and feedback necessary for the team to achieve excellence.

What We’ll Like About You:

  • Professional Credentials: Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or other related field, preferred; SHRM-SCP, SPHR, CEBS or CCP certification is highly preferred.
  • Leadership Experience: 10+ years of progressive HR experience, with at least 5 years in a formal leadership capacity.
  • Strategic Expertise: A proven ability to translate business objectives into effective HR strategies, particularly within compensation, benefits, and talent management.
  • Industry Knowledge: Experience managing HR functions across multiple states; background in insurance or financial services is preferred. Deep Knowledge  in at least two of the following: compensation, benefits/total rewards, talent management, or employee relations.
  • Technical Proficiency: Demonstrated experience with HRIS platforms (such as UKG or Payscales) and compensation software, preferred.
