Job Description:
We’re actively seeking a talented AVP, Enterprise Strategic and Competitor Intelligence to join our Financial Planning Analysis team in Newport Beach, CA. This role follows a hybrid schedule of four days in the office (on-site). If you are not currently located near one of our offices, we offer comprehensive relocation assistance. As an AVP, you will be responsible for supporting the development and operationalization of enterprise intelligence capabilities that inform strategy, support executive decision making, and enhance competitive advantage.
This role leads a small direct team, works across the enterprise, and integrates market analysis, competitive peer research, industry foresight, and strategic insights into a unified intelligence function that directly supports enterprise planning, and executive leadership. You will partner with leaders across the organization to deliver timely, actionable, and forward-looking intelligence that shapes strategic priorities and improves the organization for long term success.
How will you make an impact:
Enterprise Strategic Market Intelligence
Track and partner with other functions to monitor macroeconomic, regulatory, technological, and industry trends impacting the business.
Identify early warning signals and structural shifts in the market
Translate complex market dynamics into clear strategic implications for leadership to course correct as we look to deliver our aspirational objectives
Enterprise Competitive Intelligence Leadership
Mature competitive intelligence processes, data and enterprise insights delivery
Lead the developments of forward-looking competitor scenarios, not just retrospective analysis
Produce high-impact deliverables such as:
Competitor profiles and scorecards
Market and competitor “pulse” reports (weekly/monthly)
Strategic deep dives on high-priority competitors or segments
Executive-ready briefs and board-level narratives (as needed)
Translate intelligence into implications and recommended actions—not just facts—tailored to senior executives and business owners
Advanced Analytics and Insights Generation
Leverage Strategic and Competitor insights and analytics to quantify scenarios and potential impacts
Partner with Finance, Strategy, Technology, Operations and Product teams ensuring analytical rigor and organization applicability
Assist in the development of long-range strategic outlooks, horizon scanning and early warning indicators
Create and maintain scenario models to anticipate market evolution and business implications
Move beyond static dashboards to insight synthesis and executive storytelling
Build trusted relationships with leaders across the enterprise; operate as a consultative partner who understands business objectives and decision timelines
Coordinate with Business Insights peers to avoid duplication, elevate best practices, and ensure a connected insight ecosystem
This role integrates market analysis, competitive peer research, industry foresight, and strategic insights into a unified intelligence function. The AVP will responsibly leverage advanced analytics and Generative AI capabilities to accelerate insight generation, scenario exploration, and executive storytelling—while ensuring strong human oversight, governance, and decision accountability
Executive Decision Support
Translate complex market and competitive data into clear, concise insights for executive audiences to support our strategic plans. Capturing insights that affirm and/or challenge our strategic objectives.
Support major strategic initiatives
Provide rapid-response intelligence to support senior leaders and functions as required
Build intelligence processes that scale across the organization
Collaborate with Enterprise and Divisions Finance, Product, Distribution, Strategy, HR and IT teams to embed competitive insights into our enterprise-level strategy and long-term vision
Tools, Data, and Analytics Enablement
Select and/or optimize tools and data sources (news, filings, databases, third-party research, etc.)
Establish dashboards and repeatable analytics to monitor market share signals, competitive product changes, distribution shifts, and brand/consumer indicators
Ensure all function practices adhere to legal, ethical, and compliance standards, including appropriate use of public information and internal policies
The experience you will bring:
Bachelor’s degree
CPA, ASA, FSA, MBA or CFA preferred
10+ years of experience in financial analysis, strategy, or investor relations
Strong understanding of life insurance products, capital frameworks, and regulatory environment
Proven ability to synthesize complex data into actionable insights
Exceptional communication and stakeholder management skills
Advanced proficiency in Excel, PowerPoint, and financial databases (e.g., Bloomberg, S&P Capital IQ).Enterprise mindset: Optimizes for company overall outcomes, not just a single line of business
Action orientation: Moves from “insight” to “impact” by recommending actions and tracking adoption

Coaching leader: Develops talent, raises analytic/storytelling standards, and cultivates a high-performing, service-oriented team
Learning agility: Rapidly absorbs new information, adapts to evolving markets, and continuously refines competitive intelligence approaches based on emerging insights and feedback.
Commercial mindset: Brings a strong commercial lens to competitive intelligence by connecting market and competitor insights to revenue impact, growth opportunities, and strategic business decisions.

Base Salary Range: $203,760 - $249,040
Base Pay Range:
The base pay range noted represents the company’s good faith minimum and maximum range for this role at the time of posting. The actual compensation offered to a candidate will be dependent upon several factors, including but not limited to experience, qualifications and geographic location. Also, most employees are eligible for additional incentive pay.
