Sr. Accountant of Financial Reporting

Position Summary:

This is an exciting opportunity to continue your financial career in the Corporate Finance department of one of the fastest growing life insurance companies in the country. National Life Group currently has an opening for a Senior Accountant to join a team that is fundamental to the financial reporting and analysis function of the organization. This position offers the opportunity to take ownership of complex reporting responsibilities within a dynamic and evolving environment.

We are seeking a high performing accounting professional who thrives in a fast-paced setting, demonstrates strong technical expertise, and proactively drives improvements in reporting processes. Qualified candidates will be self-starters with a strong execution mindset who desire to advance into future leadership positions. The Senior Accountant reports to the Associate Director of Financial Reporting.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and review US GAAP and Statutory financial statements, regulatory filings, and related reconciliation controls.
  • Independently manage components of the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close process including journal entries, account reconciliations, variance analysis, and oversight of close calendar deliverables.
  • Analyze financial results and communicate insights to management to support informed decision making.
  • Identify, evaluate, and leverage emerging technologies, including generative AI and automation solutions such as RPA and workflow tools, to drive measurable improvements in reporting efficiency, control effectiveness, and scalability.
  • Analyze and implement business process improvements to enhance the effectiveness, efficiency, and scalability of the accounting function.
  • Evaluate accounting processes for compliance with corporate policies and state and federal regulatory requirements.
  • Create, analyze, and communicate monthly, quarterly, and annual reports ensuring financial information is recorded accurately and completely.
  • Collaborate with external auditors to support successful audit outcomes and regulatory compliance.
  • Research technical accounting standards and apply guidance to reporting results and disclosures. Assist with drafting accounting policy memoranda.
  • Train and mentor junior staff while fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.

Requirements:

  • 5+ years of progressive experience in accounting, financial reporting, and/or auditing.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field required.
  • CPA required or actively pursuing certification strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to adopt and apply emerging technologies, including generative AI and automation tools, to improve reporting efficiency, effectiveness, and control quality.
  • Strong experience with US GAAP required.
  • Experience with Statutory reporting and insurance regulatory filings strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently manage complex reporting responsibilities in a deadline driven environment.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills required, including proficiency with complex formulas, pivot tables, data analysis tools, and managing large and complex data sets..
  • Proven track record of identifying and executing process improvements within accounting or reporting functions.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proven ability to anticipate, identify, and resolve financial issues while managing multiple priorities effectively.

Benefits

Base Pay Range.  The base pay range for this position is the range National Life reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for the position taking into account the wide variety of factors, including: prior experience and job-related knowledge; education, training and certificates; current business needs; and market factors.  The final salary or hourly wages offered may be outside of this range based on other reasons and individual circumstances.

Additional Compensation and Benefits. The total compensation package for this position may also include a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as vacation, sick time, and parental leave), dependent on the position offered. The successful candidate may also be eligible to participate in National Life’s discretionary annual incentive programs, subject to the rules governing such programs. If hired, the employee will be in an "at-will position" and National Life reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation or benefit program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.

$86,625$127,050 USD
