Business Manager, Reinsurance

Job Description

We are seeking a dynamic Business Manager for the Ceded Reinsurance Department.  You will work closely with the Ceded Re team and leadership to execute on the biggest (and smallest) priorities in Ceded Re. You will work closely with the Head of Ceded Reinsurance– your role is to pick up ideas and turn them into initiatives, run projects, propose solutions, and generally think 2 steps ahead to act as a trusted advisor and strategic thought partner to the Ceded Re team.  You’ll collaborate with cross-functional teams, manage high-impact initiatives, create presentations and track treaty placements to ensure the department is running efficiently.

What we’re looking for:

We are looking for an individual who is internally motivated, intellectually curious, can manage multiple priorities, and is driven to enhance existing processes.  The candidate should possess strong technical and business expertise with the ability to build sustainable, collaborative relationships, influence stakeholders, and lead, motivate and gain commitment from key constituents.

No two weeks will look the same. You’ll combine strategic thinking with tactical execution, moving from building an income statement model or board deck to coordinating a reinsurer introduction or running down a legal item. If you are low-ego, detail-obsessed, and excited by intense, hands-on work at a high-growth company, this is the role.

Key responsibilities:

  • Project Management & Execution - Lead and/or coordinate high-impact projects from initiation to completion, ensuring timely delivery and measurable outcomes
  • Executing the undefined – you will execute on hundreds of other priorities and tasks, we haven’t yet defined. Need to be comfortable operating in a lean, fast-paced, and evolving environment
  • Support the Placement teams - provide data-driven insights, recommendations, and critical feedback on strategic reinsurance purchasing decisions (potential to lead certain treaty placements in future)
  • Relationship management - Facilitate cross-functional collaboration and align stakeholders across departments to remove bottlenecks and maintain momentum on key initiatives.
  • Operational Efficiency - Develop and refine processes that optimize the priority-setting for the Head of Ceded Reinsurance, including meeting agendas, briefing materials, and follow-ups.
  • Track Performance – track organizational performance metrics, assessing progress toward strategic goals and identifying areas for improvement.
  • Executive Communication & Alignment - Prepare presentations, board materials, and executive summaries to communicate strategic priorities internally and externally.

Qualifications Experience & Background:

  • 3+ years of experience at a top-tier management consulting firm or in a similarly demanding strategic/operations role
  • Insurance and/or reinsurance experience a plus
  • High proficiency in Excel and PowerPoint
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Engineering, Economics, or a related field; advanced degree (MBA or MS) is a plus

Skills & Competencies

  • Strategic Thinker: Exceptional analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a knack for synthesizing complex information into clear recommendations. High degree of discretion, judgment, and ownership
  • Organizational skills + Attention to Detail - Exceptional organizational skills and ability to manage multiple workstreams simultaneously while adhering to tight deadlines
  • Communication & Influence: Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to influence and coach stakeholders at all levels.
  • Data-Driven Approach: Comfortable leveraging data and analytics for sound decision-making; proficiency in SQL or BI tools is a plus.
  • Adaptability: Able to thrive in a fast-paced, ambiguous environment, pivoting quickly as priorities shift.
  • Personal Attributes:
    • Collaborative: A team player who brings people together to achieve common goals.
    • Entrepreneurial Spirit: Takes ownership and proactively seeks opportunities to create value.
    • High Integrity: Trustworthy, dependable, and operates with the utmost discretion.
