The Vice President, Claims & Operations is a senior executive responsible for the strategic leadership, operational performance, and financial outcomes of the organization’s Employee Benefits claims and service operations. This role has enterprise level accountability across Voluntary, Life, Waiver of Premium, Absence, and Disability claims, as well as broad operational ownership of Service Operations, Customer Experience Center (CEC), Onboarding, Billing, Contracts, and Enrollment.

As a member of the Employee Benefits Senior Leadership Team, this executive will shape multi-year operating strategies, sponsor key enterprise initiatives, and drive cross functional execution to deliver market leading service, operational efficiency, and sustainable financial performance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Drive the strategic planning and execution of multi-year operating principles.
  • Create and sustain a market-competitive advantage through operational excellence, innovation, and disciplined execution.
  • Translate enterprise strategy into actionable priorities, roadmaps, and outcomes across claims and service operations.
  • Ensure claims are administered accurately, efficiently, compliantly, and with a strong focus on customer and employer experience.
  • Own performance outcomes across service operations, including Customer Experience Center (CEC), onboarding, and implementation, billing and premium administration, contracts, and enrollment operations.
  • Define priorities and partner across Enterprise functions (Technology, Finance, Legal, Compliance, Risk, Sales and Product) to ensure alignment and execution.
  • Serve as the business sponsor for critical enterprise initiatives focused on financial performance improvement, operational efficiency, process simplification and automation, scalability and growth enablement.
  • Own operational and claims financial performance, including expense management, productivity, and cost to serve.
  • Drive improvements in margin, operating leverage, and service efficiency.
  • Establish and monitor KPIs, dashboards, and management routines to ensure accountability and transparency.
  • Lead large-scale operational and technology transformation initiatives cross Group Insurance/Employee Benefits operations.

Required Education/Work Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Insurance, Healthcare Administration, or a related field
    • Master’s degree (MBA, MHA) preferred
  • 10-15 years of experience leading Group Insurance/Employee Benefits Ops/Technology/Claims functions
  • Minimum 5 years of executive level leadership

Salary Band: 11B

This selected candidate will be expected to work hybrid in Indianapolis, IN or Portland, ME. The candidate will also be expected to physically return to the office in CA, IN or ME as business needs dictate or for team building and collaboration.
