Key Responsibilities:
Lead strategic direction of a Property Claim Department to ensure alignment with the organization’s goals and objectives. Accountable for overall Commercial, E&S and Specialty Property Performance, growth and profitability. Oversees the Leadership Team’s execution in delivering exceptional quality, customer service, Associate engagement, expense management, proactive and effective performance management, salary planning and administration, training, talent selection and development and improved workflows. Identifies, analyzes, and improves upon execution opportunities through the operation. Represent the organization in external forums and events, such as industry associations, conferences, and media.
Ensures an environment for cross-claims communication by driving the importance of alignment through the Claim Directors to the Team/Associate level. Resolves claim handling issues that involve multiple specialties.
Develops and implements claim initiatives and coordinates cross-functional linkage at geographic levels. Responsible for driving Field Claims and Technical excellence for specialty across geographies. Develops strategy and implements performance improvement initiatives.
Builds and enhances relationships with Agents, Brokers, Planning Units, Actuaries and Finance. Promotes the technical claim handling and program management for several separate and distinct Underwriting organizations which includes regular strategy/trend meetings with Underwriting, Product, Actuarial and Finance Officers and Directors. This includes developing and implementing operational strategies to solve problems related to the customer's business and for service/products.
Provides claims related services and support across the Commercial, E&S and Specialty business units for Property: Fast Track, Nat Cat, Core, Large Loss, General Adjusting and Forensic Accounting.
Reviews, advises and provides settlement guidance on extra contractual exposures for the Property Claim E&S/Specialty verticals.
Accountable to hire, develop and recognize talent to maintain a high-performance culture and team, fostering collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement.
May perform other responsibilities as assigned.
Reporting Relationships: Reports to VP, Commercial, E&S and Specialty. Leads a team of 2-3 of Directors and total staff of 90+ claims professionals.
Typical Skills and Experiences:
Education: Undergraduate degree (BS/BA) required. MBA or other post graduate degree is strongly preferred. Leadership/management classes and/or insurance technical classes preferred.
Experience: Ten or more years’ experience in claims operation, including at least five years in leadership capacity preferred. Property Claims of Commercial and Excess, Surplus and Specialty experience preferred.
Knowledge, Abilities and Skills: Strong decision-making skills -ability to recognize, analyze, and improve claims performance such as loss control, ALAE/LAE and customer satisfaction. Strategic agility, results orientation, customer focus, effective team building, decision making quality, organizational agility and business acumen. Ability to lead, motivate and manage diverse teams in a changing environment. Proven ability to communicate concisely with individuals and groups. Ability to facilitate resolution of competing interests. Demonstrated knowledge of Commercial, E&S and Specialty Claims, distribution channels, Unfair Claims Handling Regulations. Ability to analyze and apply current/future business and economic trends to strategic decision making. Experience in LEAN Management desirable. Highly collaborative with value chain partners across business units.
