Responsible for the overall leadership of the Finance function of the following subsidiaries – SLOCPI, SLAMCI, SLFPI and SLIMTC, as well as the Sun Life Prosperity family of funds. Manages multiple financial functions, providing strategy and direction for financial controls and planning and provides critical information to senior management for financial planning and decision making and enhances financial frameworks to achieve business results.

Knowledge

  • Expert knowledge and skills in financial planning and control and policies, general accounting, cost accounting, budget, banking, treasury, taxation and government regulations governing financial transactions  

  • Expert knowledge and skills in financial modeling  

  • Canadian, US and local GAAPs expert  

  • Expert knowledge in insurance and asset management financial drivers  

  • In-depth knowledge of the company’s businesses, distribution operations, products, processes and business practices as they relate to legal requirements and current and emerging government regulations 

Qualifications

  • University degree in Finance/Accounting/Actuarial or equivalent fields and a recognized accounting designation  

  • 15 years prior working experience in Finance/Actuarial with at least 5 years in senior managerial roles 

Responsibilities

  • Leads and provides strategic direction to the finance function to protect shareholders value and company assets 
  • Owner of multiple financial management processes. 
  • Develops and enhances finance framework to ensure appropriate level of controls are in place 
  • Provides critical information/support to senior management for making critical financial decisions. 
  • Relationship management for internal/external auditors, tax authority regulators and other external bodies. 
  • Alerts senior management to financial risk and exposure. 
  • Develops and enhances financial management frameworks to achieve business results. 
  • Supports BU Chief Executive Officer and senior management team on merger and acquisition initiatives. 
  • Ensures support to critical legal functions as corporate secretary, litigation management, internal legal consultancy and contracts review.
