Development Forensic Engineer

Job Location: South Africa

We have an exciting opportunity for a Development Forensic Engineer, Electrical to join Sedgwick’s Environmental Forensic Investigations team in South Africa. 

 

Working for EFI Global in South Africa, supporting insurance and commercial clients, you will advise on the endtoend management of environmental incidents, overseeing investigations to determine contamination and associated risks. 

 

As a Development Forensic Engineer, you will apply early career electrical engineering experience within a structured, supervised environment, contributing to investigations involving electrical faults, fire damage, plant failures, and equipment losses. 

 

In undertaking site inspections, you will document evidence, record conditions, and gather technical data such as drawings, test results, and maintenance records, enabling thorough and accurate analysis. 

 

Using established engineering principles and regulations, you will assess failures and damage, supporting clear, evidence-based conclusions and producing concise technical reports for insurers, loss adjusters, and clients, subject to review. 

 

Throughout investigations, you will maintain organised records, manage documentation, engage with stakeholders, and respond to technical queries while supporting the Lead Forensic Engineer and wider team delivery. 

 

This is perfect for an early career engineer seeking handson forensic experience, structured development, and progression within a technically focused, clientdriven environment. 

 

The skills you will have when you apply:   

 

  • Academic Foundation and Technical Knowledge  BEng/BSc in Electrical Engineering, with a solid understanding of electrical principles, installations, and distribution systems. 

  • Technical Interpretation  Able to read and interpret electrical drawings, single-line diagrams, and technical documentation. 

  • Fault Analysis and Problem Solving  Uses structured methods to support analysis of electrical faults and incidents under supervision. 

  • Professional Communication  Communicates technical findings clearly and maintains professional conduct in client and site settings. 

  • Work Management and Accuracy  Detail-focused and methodical; manages multiple tasks while maintaining accurate technical records. 

  • Ownership and Development  Takes responsibility for work, demonstrates strong work ethic, IT proficiency, and a commitment to ongoing learning.
