Sompo has a unique opportunity for a Senior Underwriter to join our Sompo Pro Canadian team in our Toronto, Ontario office. This position will support our Canadian Domestic platform.
Job Summary:
As a Cyber and Technology E&O Underwriter, you will play a critical role in evaluating and analyzing Cyber Liability insurance risks for a wide range of clients in Canada. You will assess risk factors, determine coverage and pricing, and collaborate with other stakeholders to develop and implement underwriting strategies that align with the company's goals and guidelines.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Review and analyze Cyber and Technology E&O insurance submissions and assess risk exposures.
Evaluate and analyze historical loss data, risk management practices, financials, and other relevant information to determine appropriate coverage terms, conditions, and pricing.
Negotiate policy terms, conditions, and pricing with brokers and clients, while adhering to underwriting guidelines and profitability targets.
Monitor and manage existing book of business, including renewals, endorsements, and cancellations.
Stay up-to-date with market trends, industry developments, and regulatory changes to effectively assess risk exposures and determine appropriate coverage solutions.
Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior underwriters, as needed.
Build, develop, and maintain strong relationships with brokers, clients, and other stakeholders to foster business growth and collaboration.
Mentor and guide more junior underwriters.
Assist with special projects, initiatives, and reporting requirements, as assigned.
Qualifications include:
Bachelor’s Degree or relevant work experience.
Minimum experience for a Sr. Underwriter is 5+ years of Cyber and Technology E&O Underwriting and Risk assessment experience, preferably in the Canadian market.
Existing relationships with brokers/ agents throughout Canada is preferred
Professional designations, such as Chartered Insurance Professional (CIP), Fellow Chartered Insurance Professional (FCIP), CRM, would be an asset
Proficient in analyzing data, interpreting financial statements, and utilizing underwriting tools and software.
Strong negotiation & communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to interact effectively with clients, brokers, and internal stakeholders.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities.
Knowledge of Canadian insurance regulations and market trends.
Ability to travel as required
French language is an asset
Salary Range: $115,000 – $150,000 Actual compensation for this role will depend on several factors including the cost of living associated with your work location, your qualifications, skills, competencies, and relevant experience.
