Customer Services Representative

$19.28 Minimum Starting Salary

Job Level: Individual Contributor

Shelter maintains broad salary ranges for its roles in order to account for variations in geographic location, education, training, skills, relevant work experience, business needs and market demands. Please remember that this is the minimum starting base pay only and does not consider other components that make up the total rewards package for the position. 

What You Will Be Doing:

Provide customer service support to internal and external customers by processing payments; recording claims and complaints in designated systems; and responding to basic claims, underwriting, and general inquiry questions. Support customers with access to and navigation of Shelter’s public website and mobile application. Obtain and maintain required agent licensing and procedural compliance across Shelter’s operating territory. Adhere to assigned work schedules and primarily support phone-based interactions while assisting other frontline customer-facing channels as needed, with a focus on first-contact resolution.

Due to the duties and responsibilities of this position, a Criminal Background Check may be ordered on final candidates

What We’re Looking For:

  • Superior oral communication skills, including the ability to listen, understand, and explain insurance information to policyholders and others, with professional telephone etiquette and routine decision-making capability.

  • Strong listening skills and situational awareness to proactively identify customer needs and support first-contact resolution.

  • Ability to manage high call volumes and multitask in a fast-paced environment while demonstrating effective problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to follow and retain instructions, work with minimal supervision, and maintain a cooperative and professional attitude.

  • Demonstrated history of reliable and timely attendance, with availability for nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime as business needs require.

  • General education emphasizing keyboarding, mathematics, and English, typically acquired through college-level or vocational coursework or equivalent job-related experience.

  • Ability to perform the essential functions of the position, with or without a reasonable accommodation
