Paralegal - Employment Practices

Brown & Brown is seeking a Paralegal - Employment Practices to join our growing team in Daytona Beach, FL. 

  

Reporting to a senior paralegal, this role will provide legal and administrative support as a true paraprofessionalParalegals evaluate facts and evidence, undertake research and collate relevant materials for the legal matters assigned to themAll duties are to be performed in accordance with departmental policies, practices, and proceduresThe position periodically includes supporting other teammates as needed.  

  

How You Will Contribute 

  • Document, investigate, research, and analyze any possible risks/exposure to the company received by the company, its subsidiaries or any regulatory entities.  

  • Organize and maintain records in the department's electric filing system. 

  • Draft summaries to counsel providing information such as the nature of the inquiry, causes of action, alleged and preliminary recommendations. 

  • Work with Brown & Brown subsidiaries to conduct fact-finding and retrieve relevant information and records.  

  • Create and maintain a legal knowledge management system to include work product materials. 

  • Filing communications, pleadings, and update the status of pending litigation matters as needed. 

  • Directly interact with retained outside counsel to effectively resolve open pending actions, matters or required documentation as quickly as possible.  

  • Work closely with retained outside counsel and litigation support staff to coordinate corporate depositions, scheduling and appearance as needed. 

  • Consistent, regular, punctual attendance as scheduled is an essential responsibility for this position. 

  • Attend team meetings, conferences and training as needed. 

  • Performs other duties as assigned.  

  

Skills & Experience to Be Successful  

  • A Paralegal certificate from an accredited college or a bachelor's degree in paralegal studies or business is preferred.  

  • At least 3 + years of professional experience as a paralegal in a law firm or in-house legal department.  

  • Insurance defense and/or personal injury experience are strongly preferred. 

  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy to ensure that all aspects of a matter are thoroughly reviewed and documented to include conference calls.  

  • Demonstrate proficiency with Microsoft office products (Word, Excel and Outlook).

  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment, independently, as well as collaboratively, and operating under tight deadlines with a broad range of responsibilities.  

  • Self-starter with ability to manage and prioritize a myriad of competing matters.
