Great American's Excess Liability Division is seeking underwriting professionals who thrive on building relationships, generating profitable business, and solving complex risk challenges.
Our Excess Liability Division provides large-limit liability solutions that help protect clients from catastrophic losses. We offer substantial capacity for both Lead Umbrella and Excess Liability placements, serving organizations ranging from light-hazard operations to complex manufacturing and processing risks.
As part of our team, you'll have the opportunity to work with sophisticated accounts, build strong broker relationships, influence portfolio growth, and partner with industry experts while contributing directly to the success of a profitable and respected business unit.

To support this, employees in this role are expected to be on-site four days a week, with the flexibility to work one day remotely. Core in-office days are Tuesday–Thursday, with the fourth day determined by business needs.

Key Responsibilities
Underwrite new and renewal Excess Liability and Lead Umbrella business.
Analyze risk exposures, determine pricing and coverage terms, and make sound underwriting decisions.
Develop and maintain strong relationships with agents and brokers to generate profitable business.
Market Great American's products through broker meetings, presentations, and industry events.
Manage and grow a profitable book of business while maintaining underwriting discipline.
Monitor market trends and identify new business opportunities.
Ensure underwriting documentation and compliance requirements are met.
Collaborate with internal partners to deliver exceptional customer service.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience preferred.
Casualty underwriting experience:
Senior Production Underwriter: Generally, 5-7 years
Production Underwriting Specialist: Generally, 7-9 years
Senior Production Underwriting Specialist: Generally, 10+ years
Excess Casualty and Umbrella underwriting experience strongly preferred.
Strong relationship-building, negotiation, and communication skills.
Ability to travel as needed (typically less than 10% overnight).
Compensation
Senior Production Underwriter: $97,000 - $133,000
Production Underwriting Specialist: $123,000 - $169,000
Senior Production Underwriting Specialist: $163,000 - $218,000+
Compensation is based on experience, skills, education, and geographic location. Candidates with higher salary expectations are encouraged to apply and will be considered based on qualifications.
