MSIG USA continues to grow!
Company Overview:
MSIG USA is the US-based subsidiary of MS&AD Insurance Group Holdings, Inc., one of the world’s top P&C carriers and a global Class 15 insurer, with A+ ratings and a reach that spans 40+ countries and regions. Leveraging our 350-year heritage, MSIG USA brings the financial strength, expertise, and global footprint to offer commercial insurance solutions that address your business’s unique risks.
Role Overview:
The Associate Forward Deployed Engineer learns the deployment lifecycle by doing it alongside our Senior Forward Deployed Engineer who owns a domain relationship, and a portfolio of use cases end to end.
You will own small-to-medium deployments end to end and co-lead larger ones alongside a Senior Forward Deployed Engineer. You will be trusted to run stakeholder sessions, make scoping decisions, and mentor and pair with Associate Forward Deployed Engineers on your deployments.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
Discovery & Scoping
- Lead discovery sessions for your own deployments. Design the agenda, run the meeting, write the summary, and own the output.
- Translate what you hear from a claims examiner, an underwriter, or a finance analyst into a scoped problem statement with clear boundaries — what is in, what is out, and why.
- Identify when a request is not actually a data or AI problem and articulate clearly and constructively before work begins.
- Build the current-state baseline: process maps, volume and cycle time numbers, failure modes, and the manual workarounds.
- Define clearly the success metric before build starts.
Build
- Design and build production-grade solutions: Python services, SQL pipelines, web frontends, backend APIs, and AI-assisted workflows on Azure and Databricks.
- Architect solutions that are simple enough for a future team member to maintain without you. Complexity that only you understand is a liability, not an asset.
- Integrate with MSIG USA's data platform — Microsoft Fabric, Databricks, OneLake, Azure OpenAI — and with core insurance systems where required.
- Build LLM-powered features including RAG pipelines, document extraction, structured output generation, and AI-assisted workflow automation for insurance use cases.
- Pair with Associate Forward Deployed Engineers on their work. Review their designs before they build, not after.
Deploy & Support
- Own deployment end to end: infrastructure provisioning, identity and access, monitoring, alerting, and runbooks.
- Navigate the corporate environment efficiently on Proxies, certificates, security policy, access provisioning.
- Own the AI governance path for your deployments: use case registration, risk classification, validation evidence, and committee submission.
- Manage production incidents on your deployments. Diagnose, communicate, resolve, and document.
- Track adoption after go-live.
Stakeholder Engagement
- Build working relationships with the business functions you are embedded in.
- Present deployment status, risks, and decisions to business stakeholders and to the DA&AI leadership team.
- Work closely with Senior Forward Deployed Engineer.
Enablement & Knowledge Transfer
- Build training materials and documentation that business users need.
- Deliver enablement sessions independently.
- Contribute reusable components, patterns, and documentation back to the team.
- Mentor Associate Forward Deployed Engineers actively.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Data Science, Analytics, Information Systems, Applied Mathematics, or a closely related quantitative field.
- 3–6 years of professional experience in a technical role that involved both building software and working directly with non-technical business stakeholders. Both halves matter.
- Production Python and SQL. You have written both in environments where someone else depended on them working.
- At least one end-to-end deployment or project you can describe in detail — what the problem was, what you built, how you deployed it, what went wrong, and whether it got used.
- Experience working in a cloud environment. Azure strongly preferred. You should be comfortable with identity and access, secrets management, compute provisioning, and basic monitoring without step-by-step instructions.
- Good written and oral communication skills.
- Genuine curiosity about the insurance business — not just the technical problems.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Hands-on experience with LLMs, RAG architectures, or AI agent frameworks — LangChain, LlamaIndex, Azure OpenAI, or equivalent — in a production or near-production context.
- Experience with Microsoft Fabric, Databricks, or Azure Data Lake in a data engineering or analytics engineering capacity.
- Familiarity with Power BI or similar BI tools at a level beyond dashboard consumption — semantic models, DAX, RLS, deployment pipelines.
- Insurance, financial services, or another regulated industry — either professionally or through substantive academic work.
- Experience mentoring, coaching, or technically leading a more junior colleague, even informally.
- Familiarity with AI governance concepts — model risk, explainability, use case registration, validation evidence — in a corporate or regulated context.
- Any modern web framework used in a deployment that real users depended on.
