Construction Industry Vertical Lead

Job Description

CopperPoint has an exciting opportunity for a Construction Industry Vertical Lead to shape the strategic direction, growth, profitability, and long-term success of our construction portfolio. This role serves as the business leader for construction, leveraging industry expertise, underwriting acumen, portfolio management, and market insight to drive sustainable, profitable growth. The Lead will own the strategy and roadmap, influence cross-functional partners, and drive execution while serving as a recognized subject matter expert internally and externally. Initially an individual contributor role, this position may evolve to include people leadership and additional industry verticals.

 

Job responsibilities:

  • Own the vertical strategy and roadmap and serve as the accountable leader for its execution, financial results, and long-term success.
  • Establish & maintain industry vertical appetite, uw guidelines, training, and best practices.
  • Provide expertise and guidance on complex accounts as needed.
  • Demonstrate strong portfolio stewardship through data-informed segmentation and risk management. Monitor portfolio trends and key performance indicators to identify opportunities, risks, and emerging issues. Evaluate external market opportunities, customer needs, industry trends, regulatory developments, and competitive dynamics.
  • Recommend and implement actions to improve portfolio performance and advance growth objectives.
  • Lead strategic initiatives that require coordination across disciplines.
  • Build alignment among stakeholders in a highly matrixed environment.
  • Serve as deep industry expert and external ambassador for assigned verticals. Represent the organization at industry events, conferences, customer meetings, and market-facing engagements. Enhance the organization's visibility, credibility, and reputation within target industries.
  • Lead through influence, expertise, and collaboration while fostering accountability and execution.

 

Qualifications/Competencies:

  • 7+ years' experience in middle/large commercial P&C insurance in underwriting or portfolio management with deep expertise in Construction.
  • Strong strategic thinking, planning, and problem-solving capabilities. Ability to develop and execute long-term business, portfolio, and industry strategies. Apply technical expertise and market insights to strategic business decisions.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead complex initiatives across multiple business functions. Proven success influencing stakeholders and driving outcomes in a matrixed environment.
  • Experience managing portfolio performance through financial, operational, and underwriting metrics. Strong understanding of profitability drivers, portfolio analytics, and risk management principles.
  • Experience with P&L ownership or shared accountability for business results strongly preferred.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to establish credibility as a trusted advisor and industry expert.
  • Demonstrated commitment to innovation, continuous improvement, and organizational learning.

 

Salary Range:

  • $165,000.00 - $210,000.00 annually
  • Compensation may vary depending on skills, experience, education, and geographical location.
  • In addition to base salary, compensation may include an annual discretionary bonus.

  • We provide some benefits at no cost to the employee (Basic Life Insurance and AD&D at two times an employee’s annual salary, Short- and Long-term Disability coverage, and Employee Assistant Plan).
  • Employees will accrue 0.1269 hours of Paid Time Off (PTO) per paid hour, which may total 33 days a year. In addition, employees will also receive 10 paid holidays throughout the calendar year.
