As a Personal Lines Underwriting Intern, you’ll learn more about the critical role an underwriter plays in driving profitable growth and retention for our business. We’ll count on you to promote and provide outstanding customer service and be responsible for assisting with portfolio underwriting.
Two interns will be accepted with placement in Personal Lines Field Underwriting.
A day in the life of a Personal Lines Underwriting Intern might include:
Completes training necessary to understand the underwriting process
Adheres to high standards of professional conduct
Learn more about performing underwriting analysis and identify business trends and opportunities for profitable growth
Builds knowledge of: Personal Lines policies to assess the total risk proposition and alternatives for acceptability within best practices.
Delivers an outstanding customer service experience to all internal, external, current and prospective Nationwide customers.
May perform other responsibilities as assigned.
Complete a capstone project: Identify an opportunity area within the Underwriting function, develop a solution to address the opportunity and present the proposal to Personal Lines leadership team for consideration.
About You
A successful Personal Lines Underwriting Intern at Nationwide has:
Education
Pursuit of a Bachelor’s degree in Business Management, Finance, Risk Management, Insurance, or related field
Completion of sophomore or junior year is preferred
Involvement in student activities and/or some work experience
Skills/Competencies
Ability to acquire skills necessary to make decisions and find a resolution in assessing the risk.
Ability to effectively prioritize work.
Ability to work in a fast-paced and team-based environment.
Written and verbal communication skills for contact and/or consultation with agency partners, sales, claims professionals, and other internal teams.
Ability to efficiently operate personal computer and software for underwriting-related and other business applications.
Nationwide does not participate in the Stem OPT Extension program. At its sole discretion, Nationwide determines whether to offer sponsorship for qualifying positions based on business need and budget. However, it is not usually available for entry level roles.
