Job Summary
The Tax Investment Analyst will be an integral part of the tax team, responsible for ensuring accurate tax compliance, reporting, and planning for a large consolidated multinational group of entities with various investment portfolios. This role requires a strong understanding of tax laws and accounting principles as they relate to investments and the ability to collaborate cross-functionally with investment, accounting, and legal teams. The analyst will also complete special projects as requested. They will work closely with other employees in the tax department and will report to the Tax Manager.
Key Responsibilities
- Tax Compliance & Reporting: Prepare and/or review a variety of federal, state, local, and international tax returns and informational filings related to investments – (e.g., Forms 1065, 1120, K-1s, K-3s, etc.).
- Investment Transaction Analysis: Review and analyze new and existing investment transactions (securities, partnerships, PFICs, CLOs, other derivatives, real estate) to determine the correct tax treatment and ensure accurate operational processing.
- Tax Provisions & Estimates: Assist with the preparation of quarterly and annual tax provisions for financial statement reporting (e.g., ASC 740, IFRS)
- Tax Basis Maintenance: Ensure accurate tax basis is maintained for all investments, understanding and analyzing differences between tax basis and GAAP or Statutory accounting bases.
- Research & Planning: Conduct research on complex tax issues and stay current with changes in tax laws and regulations affecting investments to identify tax savings/ tax credits and recommend strategies to Tax Director.
- Audit Support: Assist with internal and external audits, including gathering necessary financial information and responding to inquiries from tax authorities (e.g., IRS).
- Process Improvement: Proactively identify and implement process improvements, increase automation, and enhance digital analytics within the tax function.
- Collaboration: Liaise with internal departments, including investments, treasury, and accounting.
Requirements
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is required. A Master's degree in Taxation or Accounting is a plus.
- Experience: Two years of relevant tax experience, preferably within public accounting or the financial services/investment management industry, with experience in corporate tax rules.
- Licenses/Certifications: CPA designation or completed parts is strongly preferred.
- Technical Skills:
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially advanced Excel skills.
- Experience with tax preparation software (e.g., OneSource Tax Provision and OneSource Income Tax) and investment systems platforms is highly desirable.
- Familiarity with data management and automation tools is a plus.
