Underwriting Assistant II

Job Description

Overview

The Underwriting Assistant provides critical administrative and operational support to new and renewal underwriters. This role helps ensure efficient underwriting processes by managing correspondence, preparing files, and completing tasks that support timely and accurate policy issuance and renewal.

Responsibilities

· Prepare and review underwriting files for new and renewal business to ensure completeness and accuracy

· Monitor and manage underwriting-related email correspondence

· Review loss control reports and other supporting documentation to assess acceptability of risks in accordance with regional underwriting guidelines

· Evaluating risk experience relative to the applicable class of business

· Assist with policy rating activities, including rating new policies or verifying accuracy of previously rated policies

· Review and process requests related to cancellations, endorsements, and other policy changes; provide guidance to processing departments as needed

· Respond to agent inquiries regarding renewal status, billing, audits, commissions, and general underwriting questions

· Request and follow up on additional documentation required for applications, endorsements, or cancellations

· Research and respond to inquiries from regulatory bodies as assigned

· Manage a small renewal territory on an as-needed basis

· Take a lead role on special projects and initiatives assigned

 

Qualifications

Qualifications

· 2–3 years of experience in a multi-line Property & Casualty environment, with strong emphasis on Workers’ Compensation

· High school diploma or GED required; college degree preferred

· Working knowledge of underwriting regulations, guidelines, and departmental policies

· Strong business judgment and analytical skills

· High attention to detail with strong organizational abilities

· Excellent written, verbal, and listening communication skills

· Ability to collaborate effectively and make sound decisions when resolving complex issues

· Proven ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and work well under pressure

· Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment

 

The expected salary range for this role is $17.00-$28.00/hour.
