Reporting to the Head of Planning & Expense Consolidation, this role plays a central position within Group FP&A, supporting consolidated expense planning, reporting, and strategic analytics across the Group Benefits organization.
The Financial Analyst partners closely with Expense Management, Product, Pricing, and senior leadership to deliver actionable insights, enhance expense transparency, and support business decision-making. This role combines executive reporting, operational rigor, and forward-looking analytics to influence financial outcomes.
You will
Expense Planning & Leadership Support
Own consolidated expense exhibits supporting the annual planning process and executive leadership reviews
Develop clear, executive-ready materials highlighting key drivers, risks, and opportunities
Partner with Expense Management to validate planning assumptions
Strategic Expense Analytics
Support enterprise-wide expense studies and benchmarking initiatives
Provide detailed analytics across product, department, and account dimensions
Translate complex financial data into actionable insights
Strategically partner and support transformational initiatives inclusive of business case development
Unit Cost & Performance Metrics
Own monthly unit cost reporting, validation, and distribution
Ensure timely and accurate refresh of YTD expense data
Enhance visibility into cost efficiency and performance trends
Product Allocations
Own and maintain product allocation methodologies across Group cost centers
Partner with Pricing and business leaders to support product margin targets
Resolve allocation variances across Group and Corporate structures
Transformation & Organizational Support
Support transformation initiatives and organizational changes
Validate department alignment and assess financial implications
Identify opportunities to streamline and improve planning processes
Product Strategy Support
Partner with product teams on profitability and cost analysis
Provide expense insights tied to allocations and unit cost drivers
Ad Hoc & Cross-Functional Analysis
Deliver targeted expense analyses for actuarial, regulatory, and leadership needs
Support cost management, acquisition, and renewal analysis
Respond to evolving business priorities with strong analytical support
Systems & Controls
Participate in UAT testing and enhancements for financial systems (e.g., Oracle)
Ensure integrity, accuracy, and efficiency of expense reporting processes
Support automation and modernization of FP&A workflows
Technical Skills
Excel (advanced beginner to intermediate)
Formulas (SUMIFS, INDEX/MATCH, basic modeling)
Data manipulation (pivot tables, lookups)
Familiarity with financial ledger and planning tools.
Ability to:
Analyze variances (actual vs plan, forecast vs prior)
Identify key drivers of financial performance
Translate data into insights
You have
Required
Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or related field
4+ years of FP&A, financial analysis, or expense management experience
Strong analytical and financial modeling skills
Advanced Excel and PowerPoint proficiency
Ability to synthesize complex data into clear, executive-level insights
Strong communication and collaboration skills
Preferred
Experience in insurance or financial services
Familiarity with Oracle Planning / Hyperion / SmartView
Experience with large, matrixed organizations
Location/Travel
Hybrid: 3 days in a Guardian office located in Hudson Yards, NYC; Holmdel NJ; Boston, MA or Bethlehem, PA.
Salary Range:
$103,450.00 - $169,960.00The salary range reflected above is a good faith estimate of base pay for the primary location of the position. The salary for this position ultimately will be determined based on the education, experience, knowledge, and abilities of the successful candidate. In addition to salary, this role may also be eligible for annual, sales, or other incentive compensation.
